Folkestone Invicta 1 Otford 3
3rd August 2008
Otford came away from Folkestone on Saturday after producing their best pre season performance to date winning 3-1.
Missing some key players in Knight, Lampard and skipper Hill, Otford gave starting debuts to Mike Cunningham in the centre of midfield and James Macro in attack. The pitch was in superb condition and the pre match shower greased up the surface perfectly to suit Otford's style of play. The O's got the ball down early and some slick passing had Folkestone chasing shadows for most of the 1st half. The opening goal for Otford came when Macro and Isles chased down the Folkestone defence and goalkeeper forcing an error, leaving Isles to finish past the keeper cooly. 20 minutes later, a long ball down the middle caught out the Otford defence. The ball was latched onto by the Folkestone striker who gave Dimmock no chance in the Otford goal to bring the hosts level. 1-1 at the break.
It was much more of the same in the 2nd period with Otford zipping the ball around, with Haverson and Cunningham switching play and dominating the centre of the park. Otford introduced Jamie Shields in the 2nd half and the 17 year old made an immediate impact. The impressive Macro held the ball up well and played in Knell down the right hand side, his pass found Shields in the box and he calmly rounded 2 Folkestone defenders before finishing well in the bottam left hand corner. Otford continued to make chances, defending very firmly and counter attacking at pace. It was again Isles and Macro who combined well to create Otford's final goal. A shot by Isles was palmed by the keeper into the path of Macro who had the easy task of scoring his 2nd in 2 games.
That was the end of the scoring and Otford came away with a performance which puts them in very good stead for the new season.

Plenty to take away, plenty to be happy about!
24th July 2008
The 1st team started their pre-season fixtures with a game away to Premier Division side Rusthall last night.
Looking fit and like they'd never been away, Otford started well creating a handfull of opportunities that stretched the Rusthall keeper to his maximum. The breakthrough came after 15 minutes when a killer pass from Cullis put Lampard through, and he followed on from the end of last season by finishing well. After 30 or so minutes Otford started to make use of the 18 man squad they took to the game and made changes. Still 1-0 at half time to the O's but with the knowledge they could still step it up a couple of gears.
It was the visitors whose game plan showed more in the 2nd half though as substitutions put Otford out of sync, and Rusthall got their equaliser after 55 minutes. A 2nd Rusthall goal came quickly afterwards as Otford were guilty of over playing in their own half.
That was the end of the scoring, but plenty of positives to take away. Playing away from home against a Premier League team already with a couple of pre season games under their belt, Otford more than held their own and dominated the early part of the game. Much to look forward to then, and a 'friendly' against Kent League local rivals Sevenoaks a week on Saturday.
